The regular town election shall be held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November in each odd numbered year. A preliminary election shall be held not less than four or more than six weeks prior to the general election on a Tuesday chosen by the Town Clerk, with the approval of the Council, so as not to conflict with any civil or religious holiday. All City/Town elections shall be non-partisan and no party mark, emblem or other designation shall appear on any ballot used at a preliminary or general election for City/Town
offices.

Absentee Ballots Available
Absentee Ballots for the upcoming January 19, 2010, Special Election will become available beginning December 24th. The Town Hall will be open until 12 Noon that day.
Voting is important and the legislation initiated and voted by our Senator in Congress affects each and every one of us.
So if you are, a registered voter who will be unable to vote at the polls on Election Day due to:
Absence from our community during normal polling hours (7A-8P); or
Physical disability preventing you from going to the polling place;
Or religious belief,
You can apply for an absentee ballot in the Town Clerk’s Office, on the first floor of the Municipal Office Building or by sending a letter to Town Clerk Diane F. Foley, CMMC, 26 Central Street, Suite 8, West Springfield, Massachusetts 01089-2779 indicating that you would like an absentee ballot mailed out. You must include your name and signature-as registered, your legal voting residence, your date of birth, and where you would like your ballot mailed
The request should be done at least a week before the election, in order to allow enough time to process your request, send it out, and for it to be voted, and returned. The deadline to apply is 5 P.M. on Friday January 15th because the day before the election is a
Holiday and the Town Hall will be closed. The voted absentee ballots must be received
by the Town Clerk’s Office prior to 8PM on Election Day.
If you prefer, you can come into the office apply and vote on the spot.
The deadline for new voters to register to vote is December 30, 2009 and the office will be open until 8 PM. Absentee voting can also be done that evening.
