Bereavement Leave
Leave is granted in accordance to the Classification Plan By-Law and Compensation Plan for non-union members. For union members, please refer to individual collective bargaining agreement.
Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
This act entitles eligible employees to take paid/ unpaid leave for medical reasons such as: the birth or adoption of a child, or placement of a child for foster care, and for the care of a child, spouse, or parent who has a serious health condition. Refer to the Town's FMLA policy.
Jury Duty
According to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 234A, Section 48, each regularly employed trial or grand juror shall be paid regular wages by his employer for the first three days, or part thereof, for juror service. Regular employment shall include part-time, temporary, and casual employment.
Maternity Leave
Maternity leave is available to full-time employees who have completed their probationary period. The employee must give a two-week notice of their departure date and state their intention to return to the job. The employee has a maximum of an eight-week maternity leave of absence without pay, and without loss of benefits (9MGL Chapter 151B, Section 4 (1) and Chapter 149, Section 105D).
Vacations
Vacations shall be taken during the calendar year unless the employee is given permission, in writing, by their department head with the approval of the Mayor to carry the vacation time into the succeeding calendar year.
