Josiah Day House Artifacts

The Josiah Day House provides the opportunity to view a wide range of artifacts, all of which are appropriate to the time period of 1754-1902. The items include an assortment of tools, weapons, cookware and utensils, furniture, china, clothing, linens, musical instruments, childrens toys, appliances, photographs and paintings. Among the linens are a wonderful selection of Quilts which have been appraised and registered with the Massachusetts Quilting Association. Included in the furnishing are a table built by Josiah Day and the famous Pynchon Cradle. The cradle (seen in this photo), which dates back to the mid-1600's was given to the Day family by the family of the Founder of the colony of Springfield, William Pynchon.

While the items of interest are unlimited, many of them include interesting stories regarding their use and history. Be sure to ask about the "Mourning" pictures and the wooden bridges during your visit. Don't forget to check out the herb garden as well.
